The Mystery of Worship

Honor the Lord for the glory of His name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. (Psalm 29:2 NLT)

KneelingAtTheCross[3]
God is perfectly holy and even though I am not holy, He has provided a way for me to be close to Him through Christ’s death on the cross. When I received Christ, God no longer looks at me shrouded in my sin and unrighteousness, but instead He sees me arrayed in the beautiful purity and righteousness of Christ and invites me to come into His presence and worship Him.

I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 61:10 NIV)

God graciously welcomes me into His presence each day, at any moment during the day; even if I don’t understand what I’m going through, even if I don’t feel worthy, even if I feel discouraged and weary. God encourages me to draw near, to lay everything at the foot of the cross and humbly worship Him. I was created by Him for this very purpose. Worship takes the focus off of me and puts it where it is intended to be: on the holy, righteous God of the universe. As I give my attention to thanking God for who He is and what He has done, I am reminded of His forgiveness for my past, His power to handle my present, and His faithfulness to secure my future. What a mystery that God would be so gracious to me in worship! Even though worship is all about giving myself fully to Him, when I come into His presence and offer up my worship, He meets me at my point of greatest need; He refreshes, restores and replenishes me. Worshipping God in the splendor of His holiness changes me. I can never out-give God.

Praise the LORD for the glory of His name; worship the LORD because He is holy. (Psalm 29:2 NCV)

Let them praise your great and awesome name. Your name is holy! (Psalm 99:3 NLT)

Exalt the LORD our God! Bow low before His feet, for He is holy! (Psalm 99:5 NLT)

Celebrate and worship His holy name with all your heart. (Psalm 105:3 CEV)

“Honor the Lord for the glory of His name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. (Psalm 29:2 NLT)
